  • Some of my fondest childhood memories were of going on summer vacations at the National Parks…luckily I married into a family that has the same vacation traditions.  We have taken family vacations to the Yosemite and to the Rocky Mountain National Park together with all of my husband’s siblings, his parents, and the grandkids.  Now that we have children of our own I am looking forward to going with our kids alone and with the entire family.  What a great way to begin a frugal vacation than to take advantage of the free entrance days…now to convince my husband that our children are old enough to go???  We will see…I might not be able to take advantage of this offer until next year but you may not have a 7 mth old and a 2 year old to consider so mark your calendars and plan away!

America's Best Idea – the national parks – gets even better with several fee-free days at more than 100 national parks that usually charge entrance fees.*  Mark your calendar for these fee-free days in 2011:
    • January 15-17
(Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday weekend)
    • April 16-24
      (National Park Week)
    • June 21
      (First day of summer)
    • September 24
      (Public Lands Day)
    • November 11-13
      (Veterans Day weekend)
Making the fun even more affordable, many national park concessioners are joining the National Park Service in welcoming visitors with their own special offers.

Here’s a tip – many of your 394 national parks NEVER charge an entrance fee. So start Planning Your Visit!  Thanks Stockpiling Moms for bringing this to my attention.
